Yujiro Tsuji @ Pipeline
午前中はまだ荒れ荒れのパイプだったが、
少しずつ落ち着き出し、夕方セッションに望んだユウジロウ。
シフトするピークを器用にとらえていたが、
最後はヘビーワイプアウトで板が”く”の字にへし折れてしまった〜
まるでユウジロウの叫び声が聞こえて来そうなプルインショットだ。
Pipe was still rough in the morning but
got calmed little by little and Yujiro started his session from evening.
He was catching waves skillfully but
his board broke by a heavy wipe out~~
I could hear his scream from this pull in shot.

風はノースからイースト寄りに振りオフショアとなり、
スエルはウエスト＆ノースがミックスドアップ。
セットは落ち着いたとはいえ、１０プラスはあろうか、、、
天気は午前中は雨、後，曇り、後、薄日が差して来た〜〜
夕方の２時間クィックシュートでした〜
Wind changed to east from north so got offshore and
west & north swell mixed up.
Sets still had 10+…
Weather was rainy in the morning, got cloudy and sun started to come out~~
Quick 2 hour session in the evening~~

サンセットプロジュニアには参戦せず、
ヴォルコムパイプに照準を合わせているレオ。
ビッグワンを狙わず、手前のコンパクトカインドをメイクしていったが、
ついにはマンモスセットの下敷きになり、
リーシュを切って打ちあがってきた〜
Reo is not gonna surf on the Sunset Pro Junior so
he’s aiming down his site for the Volcom Pipe.
He was making through only the compact kind waves but
he got smashed by a mammoth kind set and
his leash came off so he just got wiped to the shore~

エフカイ寄りにシフトしたウエストをビハインドからプルイン、
そのままサンドバーバレルにボッコリ包まれたシュン。
シュンもまたサンセットプロジュニアにはエントリーせず、
パイプへの一念でこの冬を過ごしている。
Shun pulled in to this westerly wave from Ehukai side and
got into the sand bar barrel.
Shun is also not gonna surf on the Sunset Pro Junior and
he’s gonna spend this winter for Pipeline.

Chris Bryan & his family
オージーのモーションピクチャーカメラマンのクリスブライアン。
クリスとは彼がまだバリバリのボディボーダーだった１９歳の頃、
ウエスタンオーストラリアのビーチブレイクで知り合った。
ロン毛のスキニでドロップニーを得意としたオージーキッズで、
ただ人懐っこくて何度かシークレットビーチに連れて行ってくれた仲だった。
そんなクリスと再会したのは、それから１０年近くなってからで、
すっかりオデブのオージーおっさんになっていたが、
水中ビデオグラファーとしてバリバリ活躍していた〜
代表作の一つとしては、クィックシルバーが制作した”ヤングガン”等だ。
それからは毎冬ノースに来ては、よく一緒にパイプ水中撮影したものだ。
一度二人してヒュージクローズアウトセットを喰らい、
とてつもないウォータープレッシャーによって、
二人ともボトムに吸い付けられ、身動きがとれず死にそうな目にあったことがある。
二人して水面に出たときはお互い顔面蒼白だったに違いない。
そんなクリスと今冬もノースで再会、
今季は仕事モードと言うより、家族でのバケーションだと、
出来たばかりのベイビーと奥さんと仲睦まじそうだった。
何故クリスの話になったかと言うと、
今季自分は全く水中に入らず、ランド撮影ばっかだった。
入れるコンディションがあったにも関わらず、
何故か心が体がゴーしなかったのだ。
そんなモヤモヤした自分をプッシュしてくれたのが、このクリスだった。
いつもの様にランドギアを持ってパイプに行くと、
クリスがいつもの様にニコニコ笑いながら、
ヘイ、キン〜レッツゴートザウォ〜タ〜と声をかけてくれた。
そんな一言だったが、自身のモードが変わり、
その日は６時間近くパイプで水中撮影をする事が出来た。
友人というほどの仲でもない、強いて言えば、海の仲間、
そんなクリスと今日色んな話をしたら、
彼もまた俺と同じ思い出があり、
ウエスタンでの事、パイプでの事などを奥さんに説明していた。
なんかうまく文字にできないけど、
こういった共有出来る見えない繋がりこそが、
生きて行く活力の源であり、人生の財産なのではないだろうか、、、
、、、と、カッコつけて終わらせておこう、、、ニャオ〜
Aussie motion picture photographer, Chris Bryan.
I met him at Western Australia when he was still a young 19 year old bodyboarder.
He was a kid that was good at knee drop and he was also friendly to everyone so
he even took me to a secret beach couple times.
And after a decade, we met again and he was one chubby Aussie guy but
he was still in the front line as a water photographer~
One of his masterpiece is ‘Young Gun’ produced by Quiksilver.
He started to visit Northshore every winter so we started to shoot in the water together.
One time, we ate this huge closed out set together and
I remember we almost died by getting pushed down to the bottom reef by the water pressure.
I bet we were scared out of shot by that one.
And we met again at Northshore this winter with
his new baby and his wife.
Why I’m taking about Chris?
It’s because I was shooting at land all the time in this season.
There were some good condition to go inside the water but my body wouldn’t got.
And Chris was the one who pushed me out from this distress.
When I went to Pipe with my land gear,
Chris told me ‘Hey Kin~~~ Lets go in the water~~~’ with his smiley face.
That was the only thing he said but my condition changed and
I was able to do nearly 6 hour water session at Pipe.
He wasn’t like a best friend but we was like a comrade in the ocean.
And when I was talking with him today,
he remembered the thing I remembered as well and
so he was explaining all these stuff to his wife.
Can’t explain in words but
these connection or a bond that can’t be seen is
like the source and the treasure of our life…
Pretty cool, huh? lol
